Take What Is Yours is a duet for theatre based on the work of suffragists Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, who saw to it that American women got the right to vote in 1919. The text is composed entirely from original source material (essays, speeches, articles, letters), and tells Alice and Lucy’s remarkable and surprisingly-unknown story, in their own words. Utterly devoted to the cause, they went from lobbying and demonstrating, to arrest and imprisonment, to hunger-striking and force-feedings, and to the eventual release from prison and vindication in the passage of the national amendment.

Erica Berg & Paula McGonagle received a development grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and further developed the piece through a residency at Naropa University.
