ADVOCACY ALERT!

HELP RESTORE THE NYC DEPT.
OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS BUDGET

Dear Friends of PlayCo,

New York City budget negotiations are underway and the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) budget has been cut by 67%. Please do your part to restore vital funding for the cultural organizations in our city.  Our friends at A.R.T./NY have sent a list of ways you can take action now:

1. If you work for a cultural organization, organize a visit your City Council Member. To find your Council Member, visitcouncil.nyc.gov.
Make sure you visit the City Council Member whose district you perform in (if you perform regularly in a specific Council District). Otherwise, visit the Council Member where you have your office (even if you work from home). Let them know which local businesses you support through the purchase of food, office supplies, or production materials.
If you work in the schools or with students, see if you can bring the student, or a parent of that student, who can describe how working with your theatre has helped them gain confidence, motivated them academically, or had a positive impact on their behavior.
2. If you are an NYC resident, start a petition urging DCLA restoration:
Click here to download a sample petition.
PLEASE SEND COPIES OF THE PETITION TO A.R.T./NEW YORK ELECTRONICALLY EACH DAY to glouloudes@art-newyork.org. We have no idea how close they are to making a decision, so once we hear, A.R.T./NEW YORK will need to get the petitions into the right hands.
PLEASE TRY TO GET SIGNATURES FROM NEW YORK CITY RESIDENTS ONLY!
If everyone all around NYC does these two things, we will make a tremendous impression on the City Council.

Many thanks for all you do,
Your Friends at The Play Company
